In 2021, we went to the Netherlands as a working group for an inspiration week. During this inspiration week we also got to know Baseball 5 and even got to play it, which was super fun.

Upon our return, we had the Baseball 5 play in the week of the Trainer and Coach Training, the participating coaches under the guidance of Mr. Roy Finch. It has also been very much liked by the various associations. We had then decided for ourselves that we definitely want to introduce the Baseball 5 on Bonaire.

After this, we organized as a working group together with KNBSB an instructor training Baseball 5 that was provided by Mr. Michel Aussems.

Bonaire now has sixteen Baseball 5 Instructors and we are very proud of that and we certainly want to use it. With this project we want to further promote baseball 5 on Bonaire. This so that everyone is triggered to play this sport.

Together with the various target groups, we want to increase the visibility of the sport.

With a super fun sport like Baseball 5, sporty atmosphere, nice music and an enthusiastic demo team,  we make a super day together!

Baseball 5 is known almost worldwide and is linked to the WBSC Confederation and will also be represented at the YOG Youth Olympic Games in 2026. In 2022, the Baseball5 World Cup was held for the first time.

The short, compact version of traditional baseball and softball is played with 2 teams of 5 players and in 5 innings. We leave out the bats and gloves. In the small field, already easy to plot with a crayon, you bring the ball into the field with your hand, process the ball with your hands and catch it with your hands.

So all you need is a soft rubber ball. This form of play is dynamic and is characterized by fast-paced matches. That makes it spectacular to do, but certainly also to look at.

At Baseball5 you play with two teams against each other and you are alternately at batting and in the field. Such a full turn is called an inning. When you’re up and running, it’s your job to hit the ball into the field with your flat hand or a fist. The ball must be struck between the lines of the field and hit the ground at least 3 feet from home plate.

It is then up to you to complete the round of 3 bases from home plate and finally home plate again (counterclockwise). If the ball gets to base earlier than you do, you’re out. Walk as far as you can, but pay attention; The defensive side can tap you with the ball if you’re not on one of the bases.

In the at-bats after you, you try to progress until you get over home plate again. Then you have a point. If the defending side has made up 3 people, then your at-bat is over. Now your team can defend the field and make 3 zeros as quickly as possible (people who go out do not make a point and are therefore a zero). The inning is over when both parties have been up and running. And 5 of those innings are a full game.

The team with the most points, the most runners over home plate, wins.
