Unfortunately, no softball fastpitch has been played on Bonaire for years. But that’s about to change. With the establishment of the FBSB, we have a major role and responsibility to set it up again. There is enough enthusiasm within the youth to make this dream a reality.
There are already organizations that are doing a good job of forming teams for the youth girls in order to hopefully be able to organize competitions in this area soon.
Purpose:
What do we want to achieve with this? In contrast, baseball is very popular among the youth. The popularity among the women’s youth and softball was also the case years ago, so one of our goals is to increase this target group again and to get so many ladies into sports.
We want to create and offer opportunities to this target group who would like to play softball but at their level and age category. The intention is that they can train and play in a healthy and safe way to raise their level and hopefully also play at international level in the future.
Stimulate:
FBSB together with INDEBON and Plaza Beach & Dive Resort Bonaire we organized several fastpitch clinics in March 2023 during the Bonaire International Sportsweek as an initiative of INDEBON to increase the enthusiasm within the target group. It was a very successful event with Fastpitch softball drills in all areas and also a fastpicth clinic for coaches. This event has had a large size with visits from well-known fastpitch athletes from the Netherlands, Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba. It should not stop there, so there will be regular clinics to work on the development of our athletes.
